Today is World Oceans Day! Our oceans cover two-thirds of the planet, produce most of the oxygen we breathe (did you know that?!), feed millions of people, and are a source of livelihoods, recreation, and inspiration.
What do you do when you’re on or near the ocean? By keeping these wild places healthy, we can keep surfing, snorkeling, eating, discovering, learning, and infinitely more.
Here are three easy ways you can help to protect our oceans:
- Pick up 3 items of trash next time you hit the beach. Then, show off your do-gooder self by posting on social media with #Take3ForTheSea
- Avoid single-use plastics like the plague. Eight million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year!! So use that reusable grocery bag, get a stainless steel water bottle and coffee mug, and forget about straws.
- Follow & donate to organizations committed to keeping our oceans healthy like Oceana, Lonely Whale, Take 3 For the Sea, Ocean Conservancy, and Marine Stewardship Council.

None of us can save the planet on our own, but if we all chip in just a little, it can make a huge difference.
