Malaysia – Unexpected Delight

To begin my Southeast Asia Adventure, I found myself in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It’s not a very popular destination for Americans, but you can find plenty of tourists there. I knew little about the city and country going in, but trusted my Lonely Planet guidebook to show me some highlights. After five days in KL …

An ode to nature on this #WorldEnvironmentDay 🌎🌍🌏 Kicked off the summer season the same way we have (almost) every year for the last six years: off grid and in a tent. 🏕️ Touching an elephant was an experience I’ll never forget. Her skin was soft and crinkly with prickly peach fuzz all over. She was kind enough to tolerate me conducting a health check on her as part of her weekly care at the Elephant Valley Project in Cambodia. I volunteered there for a week deep in the jungle and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Forages for mushrooms once, makes a Reel about it. Elsewhere is everywhere I haven’t been “In the city we go through the motions with our watered-down lives. But here, here you really live each and every day.” Good people are everywhere. Sometimes we find them and hold on to them, sometimes they pass through our lives fleetingly. Years ago I had the privilege of volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Cambodia, and it was there that I fell in love with Moon Bears. I could relate to their love of the cold and I respected their equally cool demeanor. Happy International Day of Forests 🌲 Have you ever just enjoyed a tree? Some of my best naps have been under the shade of a tree. I’ve climbed more than I can count, and I’ll never forget how the branches of the Japanese Maple outside of my childhood home felt. I’ve marveled at trees that are thousands of years old, and I’ve thanked countless others for their wisdom.
